Update on Gary
August 27, 2016
As you know Gary has been through alot in these last few months. They still have no idea whats wrong with him, The NMO test came back negitive See More
In May of this year my son Gary was sick , he didnt go to the doctors because he had no health insurance at work , but he kept working because he is the main provider for our family , at the end of May he went to the emergency room and they examined him and sent him home with antibiotic , they told him it was bronchitis ...By the end of the 1st week he started getting sick again he didnt want to go back to the emergency room because he already had the 1st bill to pay and was worried on how to pay for it . I found health insurance on June 6th but had to wait for it to take effect and on June 13 , I called my doctor crying please Dr . Levinson can you please see my son Gary he is so sick , he said bring him in at 3 , Gary was there , my doctor looked at him and knew he was in real bad shape , they tried getting an oxygen level , blood pressure , and temperature nothing would register, and he was jaundice , Gary was admitted to the emergency room with hemolytic anemia and auto immune deficiency .In the emergency room they had taken all kinds of blood test and 1 test was for his blood count , it came back with a blood count of 3 , he needed 6 bags of blood but had to wait over a day to get it because they had to find blood with alot of antibodies and it had to match his. They got him better by shutting his immune system down and steroids and was put on an out patient basis and had to start chemo. He started chemo the following week , the day before his next chemo appointment the hospital called and canceled because they had noone to administer it. Before the next schedualed appointment Gary was back in the hospital at lordes in willingboro with the fever and chills and throwing up. He there approx a week with them trying to figure out what was wrong and why he kept getting the fever and chills. After the 7 days they Tranfered him to copper to see if they could figure out what was wrong. They sent him home with a low grade fever and said he was fine. Two weeks later the fever and chills were back. We took him back to the hospital august 6th to lordes medical with a fever of 103. They said besides the fever and chills all his blood work came back fine, I argued with the Dr to keep him in the hospital becasuse a hemolytic anemia fever cant go above 100 degrees, He then refused to keep Gary But then called Cooper Camden and had him admitted under Infectious disease to see is they could find out whats wrong, Instead of them looking at his immune system like what was originally stated They were looking for infectious disease. I brought up to the dr that since the 6th of august to the 9th of august he had a severe headache ,stiff neck , and was having double vision.I then asked the dr to take a mri of his head , The next day, the 10 of august they seen that he had an infection in his brain and was it was also swollen. The following day he had a spinal tap and another mri. With that Mri they found that the infection had spread to his spinal cord.that morning he lost feeling from his waist down and could not move his legs. At that point they were still seaching for infectious disease instead of a auto-immune problem. We waited till august 16th for all the tests and they still werent back. He was then Transfered to University of Penn in heart breaking shape. As it stands right now they had to put a hose up his nose to his stomach to be able to feed and administer medicine to him. He still has no feeling from his waist down and the drs are scared that the infection will move higher up his spin to his arms. after 5 days they are still administering CorticoSteroids while they wait on more test results. In the Mean time Garys truck is in danger of repossesion and our home that he works hard to pay is in danger of being foreclosed upon. I beg with a heavy And sad heart for any donations to save garys truck and our home and to be able to have money to get back and forth from the hospital for gas and parking and tolls. Me and my other son are disabled and i only receive 500 dollars and my youngest son is waiting on a disability judge. I DO NOT like begging or asking for money but i have nowheres to turn . No donation is to small and i also ask that you please put my son Gary Raymond in your prayers. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. If you have any concerns you can check up on him in the critical car unit at University of Penn room 2010. Sincerely, Garys mom and brother of 27 years and i pray for many more.
