BENEFITING: Imerman Angels
ORGANIZER: Imerman Angels
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
It will be my privilege to run my 6th and 7th marathons with Imerman Angels on October 9th in Chicago and November 6th in NYC!!!
After my cancer went into remission and I met Jonny Imerman (someone I am now honored to call a friend and a personal hero), I promised myself that I would run a marathon every year until I was five years cancer-free and to rewrite my cancer story with a bigger and better purpose.
I am happy to report that I finished my 5th full year in remission in 2015. Running the Chicago marathon for those five years help raise almost $50,000 dollars for Imerman Angels with incredible support from family, friends, coworkers and clients. After enjoying a break last year, I was reminded that there is still work to be done and people who need help so Chicago and NYC here I come... slower and sweatier than ever.
Thanks again for supporting and spreading the word about a orgnanization that means so much to me.
Immediately below is a summary of why I am raising money for Imerman Angels. For more detailed information, please follow the link below to a letter I wrote four years ago that details my cancer experience and motivation for running the marathon.
Pics from my first marathon:
When I could not find a reason, I found a purpose
As some of you are aware, I was diagnosed with cancer in January 2010. After surgery and a few months of intense chemotherapy, my cancer went into remission. I had my last treatment in May 2010 and five months later ran my first marathon in Chicago in October.
I have learned many things over the past four years, but the one lesson that rings true every day is that in some way we are all caregivers, fighters and survivors. Through our shared experiences of the struggles we endure, the strength we find and the support we provide, we help each other love better and live stronger. I continue to run this marathon every year to remind myself and others that together, we survive.
Throughout my journey, my family, friends and colleagues were incredibly supportive. Unequivocally, their strength and encouragement had a profound impact on me during my treatments and throughout my recovery. Truly humbled, I felt privileged to have been surrounded by so many wonderful people who unconditionally carried me through that challenge. Unfortunately, my story pales in comparison to many of those that affect all of our friends and families and with which we have all become too familiar.
With a deep sense of gratitude and the belief that everyone should be so lucky, I am running this marathon so others will have the same level of support and strength I was fortunate enough to receive.
To achieve this goal, I am running to help raise money for Imerman Angels, a not-for-profit organization that provides personalized connections that enable one-on-one cancer support by connecting cancer fighters, survivors and caregivers. Through hard work, dedication and passion this organization ensures that no one faces cancer alone.
