THE STORY:

Historic West Bend Theatre wrote -

Prologue: The year is 1929. Our scene opens in front of a historic theatre in bustling, downtown West Bend with horse carriages, horses and downtown shoppers.    The Historic West Bend Theatre is busy hosting travelling vaudeville acts and silent movies. Then comes the advent of “moving pictures” followed by “talkies” in the year 1934. From then on, the historic West Bend Theatre continues to show modern films and movies until 2006 when it closed down.

We need your help to bring our Historic West Bend Theatre back to life!
Citizens young and old from West Bend may have fond memories of watching movies with family and friends, listening to the resounding organ, sharing popcorn with a sweetheart or even recall a first kiss in our historic downtown West Bend Theatre.  The Theatre is an icon, an architectural treasure and a shared community memory that we can work together to revive.

Imagine:

  • A Full menu of live theatre, art performances, cabaret, old movies
  • Refreshments and a bar
  • A Historic Museum of Memories
  • A Live Entertainment venue for all ages
  • A flourishing partner to invigorate downtown West Bend

Historic West Bend Theatre Inc (HWBT), a 501c3 organization has an 11 person board and executive committee with a fully-featured and diverse skill set. We have completed a business plan and a frugal operating budget. We have brought on world-class theatre architect, Scott Georgeson, who has restored more than 200 historic theatres in the area including the Schauer Center.

Join our cast of over a thousand “save the historic West Bend theatre” supporters and help us purchase and restore the building.

Goal: Raise $100, 000 to purchase, renovate, restore, and preserve the iconic 1929 West Bend Theatre, a centerpiece of downtown West Bend.

Every film, each audience member, in any decade, who came through this wonderful landmark tells an important story. The West Bend theatre has nearly nine decades of history. Generations of experiences, conversations, laughter, tears, joy, fear, entertainment – history – have occurred in this building. What remains of this history is the building.” Chris Yogerst, assistant professor of communication at the University of Wisconsin – Washington County and is the author of From the Headlines to Hollywood: The Birth and Boom of Warner Bros
