BENEFITING: BULL TERRIER RESCUE OF VIRGINIA
On July 4th, Hutch, one of BTRVA's permanent fosters and spokes dogs, who also happens to be a heart patient, began showing signs of an intestinal blockage. Hutch was rushed to the Emergency Vet where an X-ray revealed he had foreign bodies in his stomach. Vomiting was induced, but he just could not bring up the objects. An ultrasound was scheduled for Tuesday morning to determine how to proceed. What we found was even more disturbing! Hutch had TWO undescended and cancerous testicles! Even though Hutch appears to have been neutered, and was presented to us from a shelter as neutered, Hutch was intact! We were given the option to do the blockage surgery and attempt to remove the testicles or euthanize. Hutch's heart is regularly monitored at CVCA in Virginia, and it's always our first concern. He is on several different medications and supplements daily. The vet made it very clear that he was greatly concerned that putting Hutch under anesthesia could be very risky and he might not make it off the operating table. But if the blockage didn't kill Hutch, he would still be dealing with cancer on top of a weak heart. BTRVA opted to try surgery since he was in a state of the art veterinary hospital with all care and equipment he could need were any further emergency to happen. Hutch made it through surgery! It's truly miraculous considering his heart condition. And we are so grateful! He is an active and happy dog despite his heart condition, and he has a lot of love to give with a lot of life left in him! Hutch will be hospitalized to monitor his progress for the next couple of days. Each day he spends there is very costly to the rescue, and we simply don't have the money to pay the bill. What little funds we do have are only a fraction of what we owe. Please help us in paying Hutch's medical bill. He is out there with Tank and working hard to educate people on the breed at just about every one of our BTRVA events, and we are so grateful to him for being a terrific fur friend and breed ambassador!
