EVENT: Saving Pets Challenge 2016
We first met our beautiful Krystal in January 2006. She had to have surgery after a run in with a moving car. Her original family decided to give her up so she was in need of a foster family to care for her during her recovery from a fractured pelvis, two broken legs (one in a cast and one had to have a pin put in), along with multiple contusions and abrasions. We were foster regulars with the Humane Society of Charles County and had fostered dogs with injuries before, but she was the most seriously hurt dog we had ever cared for. She was a year old at the time and looked so pathetic. We wondered if we had bitten off more than we could handle. During her healing process she became part of our family and we adopted her. Watching Krystal race around today while playing, you would never know what she had gone through. She has made a special place in our hearts and we can't imagine not having her in our life. Please consider donating much needed funds to help other pets that may find themselves in Krystal's situation.
How it began:
We moved to Charles County in 1988 and soon after adopted our first beagle, Maddie from the Humane Society of Charles County. Many more adoptions were to follow over the years. I started to volunteer at HSCC events and eventually we started fostering puppies and dogs. I joined the HSCC board of directors in January 2005. We currently have five wonderful adopted dogs of various breeds and ages rounding out our household.
About the HSCC:
In 2015, the Humane Society of Charles County provided compassionate shelter and care to more than 3,200 homeless animals, touched more than 18,000 school children, nursing home residents, veterans, and community members through our humane education and pet therapy programs, provided low-to-no cost veterinary services for more than 3,000 pets in need, and saved nearly 200 “bottle babies” through our kitten and puppy fostering programs.
The Saving Pets Challenge is the most efficient fundraiser we have found to help us save pets in our community. 100% of your donation goes directly to our shelter AND with your help, we could even win up to $50,000 in prize money! Funds raised through the Saving Pets Challenge will be used to help us provide shelter and care for more homeless, injured, and neglected animals than ever before through adoptions, fostering, community partnerships, education, affordable spay/neuter and veterinary services, and support for the families of pets in need.
