HOBY's mission is to inspire and develop our global community of youth and volunteers to a life dedicated to leadership, service and innovation.

Our flagship program, the HOBY Washington Leadership Seminar, invites every high school in Washington State to select sophomore students to attend our 4 day annual program.

The 2018 Seminar is scheduled for June 21st - 24th, at Washington State University in Pullman, WA.

Utilizing the Social Change Model of Leadership Development, developed at UCLA, the Seminar inspires youth to develop critical thinking, team-building, and goal-setting skills by exploring their self-knowledge and facilitating positive social change in their community. Our phase-based curriculum includes question-and-answer sessions with community leaders, small group discussions, interactive activities, hands-on service-learning experiences, and opportunities to engage in leadership roles which enable the student to better understand leadership and begin to identify their own leadership strengths.

During the course of the 4-day program the students are exposed to multiple viewpoints on important issues. We encourage the students to evaluate all issues from a critical perspective. HOBY believes effective leaders make informed decisions.The Seminar will consist of opening and closing ceremonies, keynote speakers, panel sessions, interactive skill-building activities, and hands-on community service projects. Activities are organized in a progressive curriculum focusing on three levels of leadership: personal, group and society. HOBY's Leadership for Service module is the fourth component of the program curriculum. Leadership for Service is a service learning opportunity teaching the students to identify a social issue or community need and use their leadership potential to help solve problems through service.

STUDENTS: Students who attend the HOBY Seminar are high school sophomores, identified by their school counselor or principal, as those with outstanding leadership potential.
