This is a fundraiser set up for Chuck Burgio. Chuck has been in a hotel paid by FEMA until recently and now he has been staying in his back yard. Adopt a House is using these donated funds to pay for hotel fees. Since 8/12/13 til 8/24/13 Chuck has been able to stay at a hotel of his choice, where he can be with his dog too. He chose not to have a trailer placed in front of his home. Since 8 /24/13 United Way has now been paying for the same hotel and will continue paying until 9/15/13. We have raised enough funds to pay entire hotel bill and now any additional funds will be going to Lindy Manpower to help pay for materials for Chuck's home. Lindy Manpower ( a volunteer group) will be helping with rebuild but they will need money for materials too. Please consider donating to Chuck and give him a permanent living situation. Here is the News 12 Article from 8/12/13: LINDENHURST - Nearly 10 months after Superstorm Sandy, a Lindenhurst man says he's been forced to live in his backyard while he struggles to put his life back together.
Chuck Burgio, 53, says 4 feet of water came into his home during the storm last October. He also lost his job as a driver for the Teamsters.
He had been staying in a motel, but he says FEMA called him last week and informed him it will no longer pay for his emergency housing.
Burgio says he's been cooking, sleeping, working out and even bathing in his yard ever since. He says he's been getting food from Catholic Charities.
After taking a nasty fall inside his house last month, Burgio went to the hospital, where he says he found out he has kidney cancer.
He doesn't know how, but Burgio says he'll get back on his feet soon. "I want to do it all myself and be proud of it," he says.
