We wish to welcome Jose Rivera and his daughter Xzandria to our family! Last week volunteers from our Women Build activities were able to help  See more

THE STORY:

At Habitat for Humanity in Monmouth County we believe everyone deserves a decent place to call home. Many Americans live in inadequate housing conditions, creating barriers to opportunity, success, stability and health. Our Monmouth County community remains one of the least affordable housing markets in the nation. However, many families in our service area struggle to gain the financial stability to own a home. Home is the key in positively influencing a family’s education, health and financial opportunities. With our help, homeowners achieve the independence they need to build a better life for themselves and their families.

Your support of Habitat for Humanity in Monmouth helps unlock a family’s future. Habitat for Humanity and legions of volunteers work with families to build their home in one of our partner communities in exchange for a 0% mortgage and the completion of “sweat” equity, hours dedicated by homeowners to build their home.

Since 2012, our organization has built 11 new homes and assisted more than 130 families repair their homes after the devastating effects of Hurricane Sandy. Here are just a few stories of families sharing what their partnership with Habitat has meant to them.

Ramps & Rails

Our programs are helping seniors age in place safely throughout our service area. Over the last several months, our Ramps & Rails program has helped build wheelchair ramps for those needed assistance freely moving around their community. This year, we helped Mrs. Parker. Because of the wheelchair ramp, Mrs. Ann Parker is now able to safely enter and exist her own home, greatly enhancing her independence.

Rivera Family – Freehold

Last year, Jessica and Daniel Rivera along with their son, Zaivion, lived in a one-bedroom apartment. Zaivion’s bedroom is in the dining room while Jessica and Daniel used the bedroom. By November, the Rivera’s moved into their new home in Freehold, where Zaivion now has his own backyard to play in.

“The fact that you helped us with this journey is what really makes this possible. It is what gives us the chance to have a home of our own. You can’t begin to imagine how much that means to my family. I thank you from the bottom of my heart, because we couldn’t gotten this far on our journey without your continued support.”

Nolan Family – Long Branch

When we met the Nolan family, they were living in a small one bedroom apartment in Long Branch. Travis and Alexandria slept in the living room on twin beds, while Michael and Samantha slept in the bedroom. Because of the tight space, they were not able to eat dinner together as a family because they did not have room for a kitchen table. Michael even served as a volunteer with Habitat a few years earlier when the organization was rebuilding after Sandy in Union Beach.

“Because of your generosity and the guidance and support of the people of Habitat for Humanity in Monmouth County, my family will be able to experience things we haven’t been able to; have family get-togethers and our own personal spaces. This is what Habitat and the volunteers helped to do for our family and so many other families. We are so very grateful. THANK YOU!”
