GOAL... 90 CHARITIES IN 48 DAYS!
While most of us look forward to the holidays with excitement and anticipation, for some the months of November and December are anything but joyful or peaceful. The holidays for those struggling with financial problems, health issues, and loneliness can be a time of increased sadness, and stress.
This is often the case for the people Holiday Express serves, which include those with mental and physical challenges, veterans, individuals in addiction and recovery programs, the isolated, the poor, the homeless, and children with serious illnesses.
At Holiday Express we believe no one should be alone at the holidays. Our programs use the healing power of music and friendship to improve the quality of life for those we serve. In 2015, Holiday Express visited 81 organizations, bringing hope and joy to 20,000 people. This year the GOAL... 90 CHARITIES IN 48 DAYS.
THE CARETAKERS SAY, "Holiday Express makes a difference."
“Adults that never show any emotion, were dancing and smiling when Holiday Express visited.” The Cerebral Palsy League
“The generosity and kindness Holiday Express showed our youth sent a powerful message - they are not alone. Thank you for making sweet dreams possible.” Covenant House Pennsylvania
“Even the children who are severely limited show great happiness during the Holiday Express visit. They were clearly moved by the live music and the interactions with your volunteers.” NJEDDA
“Our staff cried at the event when a female veteran got up to dance with the Grinch, she has basically been nonresponsive to most of the staff . . . and they were good tears. We can't do it by ourselves and it means a lot to see people care so much and help our veterans.” Department of Veteran Affairs, Lyons
We need your help to reach the GOAL... 90 CHARITIES IN 48 DAYS.
Holiday Express works year round to ensure no one is alone at the holidays. Now is the time that we plan for the holiday season and purchase supplies for the 24,000 people we serve. Now is when we need your help.
Each event - from volunteer transportation, stage set-up, delicious meal, to gift bags filled with practical essentials - is $5,000 to $20,000 depending on the number of guest attending. Holiday Express does not charge the state developmental centers, soup kitchens, specialized schools, psychiatric facilities, and homeless shelters that we visit. We depend on the generosity of people like yourself to make the gift of human kindness possible.
How you can help…
$5 will provide an adult orphan living in a group home or developmental center with a holiday party AND the feeling of belonging
$25 will provide an adult living in a long term treatment or psychiatric center with the opportunity to socialize, dance, and have meaningful conversations with people who care
$50 will provide a family in a homeless shelter with the feeling of home with a warm meal, a visit from Santa and his friends, arts & crafts, and special gifts of essential items
$80 will allow the hardworking daily caregivers a chance to enjoy the holidays with their patients
$150 will give a classroom of children attending a school for special needs the joy of live music in a safe, secure setting
$800 will transport musicians, and Holiday Express Elves to a specialized hospital to visit critically ill patients and bring much needed smiles
$2600 will provide 100 veterans with gift bags – a duffle bag filled with essential items: warm hat, gloves, socks, wash cloth, soap, deodorant, shampoo – helping them stay clean and warm long after the band has left
