I am a survivor of suicide. My son Chris served in the Arizona Army National Guard and was deployed during Operation Iraqi Freedom as a part of a Military Police Unit. 9 months after his return from Iraq, Chris died by suicide while stationed at Fort Huachuca. I facilitate a Survivor of Suicide support group through La Frontera Empact and welcome military and civilian family members trying to find a way to maneuver through life after suffering a loss to suicide.
Why I’m Marching:
I would like to raise awareness of the high number of military suicides each day. By raising this awareness I hope we can focus on prevention and education so other families won’t live in the pain and sorrow of losing a loved one to suicide. I can’t get my son back, but I want to be instrumental in raising awareness and being a voice of change in educating our military and public to the number of suicides each day that take the life of someone who willingly served his/her country to ensure our freedom.
