I am the Director of Crisis and Trauma Healing Services at EMPACT-SPC. I have my husband, Juan and two children: Isabela (14 yo); Lorenzo (2 yo). I enjoy playing softball and watching football (Pittsburgh Steelers and Ohio State Buckeyes)
I am walking for my father, Stephen Chestnut, was a Green Beret in the ARMY with the 101st and 82nd Airborne divisions; he served 2 tours in Vietnam and is a Bronze Star and double Purple Heart Recipient. My paternal grandfather, Peter J Chestnut, was in the 4th Armored Division in the ARMY and served in WWII; he was a Silver Star recipient, Bronze Star recipient and a Purple Heart Recipient. My maternal grandfather, Harry Serago, was an Infantryman in the ARMY and served in WWII; he was a Purple Heart Recipient. My husband, Juan Ramirez, JR, was a Combat Engineer in the ARMY. He rejoined the military after 9/11 when the US went to war with Iraq. He was deployed when our daughter was very young and served in Iraq for 14 months. Every significant male in my life served our country in the military and each faced unique challenges when returning home. Through my work with EMPACT, I am very aware of the numbers of Veterans who die by suicide on a daily basis and the struggles that Veterans face reintegrating into civilian life. I am passionate about raising awareness and raising funding to help Veterans and their family members get connected to the services that they need. It is time that all of us serve those who have served for our country.
