Please help me reach my goal of $600 to donate to the 9th annual YWCA Salem Discover Pink Walk. I walk in awe and honor of the incredibly tough, tenacious people around me who went, are going, and will go to battle against cancer and other deadly diseases.
The Sept. 29 walk is about 3 miles around Salem. Besides paying the $15 early bird registration fee, I want to raise money to donate the equivalent of 10 mammograms, which cost $60 each. According to the event's website (http://ywcasalem.org/discoverpink):
"Did you know Marion and Polk Counties have some of the highest rates of breast cancer in Oregon? Did you know YWCA Salem’s Health Services is the area’s only provider of free breast cancer screenings and support for local women?
In 2012, YWCA Salem provided services for over 700 local women. This year, in the first 6 months alone, we have already helped that many women! Unfortunately we also have a waiting list of over 50 women needing exams."
I hope that one day I will live in a country where healthcare is given to every person who needs it, regardless of who they are, where they're from, or how much it costs. But until then, life-saving mammograms cost the organization $60 EACH.
Every dollar counts! (Seriously!) If we can raise money to fund one mammogram, that would be amazing. But I want to raise money to fund ten! That's why I'm setting my goal at $600. Any donation ($1 and up) is incredibly appreciated. The minimum donation to give through the CrowdRise website is $10, but contact me if you'd prefer to give less. If you are unable to give money, your words of encouragement are equally as, if not more, valuable and important to me.
Thanks for considering! Please share this message if you can. If you live in or near Salem, think about joining me on Sept. 29 as I walk with 1,000 other people to raise money and awareness about bodily health in our area; we create a team together. You can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions or advice!
