Help USMC Kid
Organized by: Melissa McGuire
I am 14 years old, I am the son of a United States Marine. I am raising money to legally find justice for my mom and I. I was born August 18, 2001 in Camp Pendleton Navy Hospital. I was born into a time when our country was shaken, our people were scared and as a United States Marine and his wife... My parents had no idea what would become of our future..or our family. .
In 2002 my parents got divorced. Somewhere along the line, there was a clerical error, a simple mistake overlooked by the Military attorney (provided to my dad) and the judge who signed off on the order.
- The California order states "that child support has to be ordered in Michigan" (which is where I moved with my mom by the time of the divorce). But after almost 10 years of trying to find my dad, after he finished his duty with the USMC..
- Michigan court finally ruled "that child support had to be ordered by the original judge in the divorce, in California."
We are desperately in need of help. No one that we have talked to (lawyers) have ever heard of this type of thing happening. My dad has never paid any support and defends it by saying the court says he doesn't have to. . My mom has tried everything and no one will take this case without a large retainer and all they want to do is file paperwork for child support. I am asking for help to hire a lawyer, to fly to CA and see the original judge and figure out how I slipped through the cracks for over a decade.
I want to know why or how this happened to me. As My mom was the wife of a United States Marine and I was the son, we were quickly disregarded. After the divorce date, we were no longer military, we were civillians. I’ve seen my mom fighting, studying the law for so long now.. to try and understand how to fix this?? While doing her very best to support me through every minute of my life. . It’s a big mess!
Please help me get justice, so that I can have the support that I deserve.
Today I am happy and thankful of where I am... but I have to wonder what would be different, if I was treated with more regard by the USMC.
I appreciate any support, advice or positive thoughts that anyone can give! I will never give up!
Thank you for taking the time to read my story!
