Grant Needs Our Help!

Grant arrived at Chastain Horse Park two months ago having been rescued by the Georgia Equine Rescue League (GERL). He is 22 to 25 years old and reported as an ex-police horse that was at a home that could no longer care for him. He was severely underweight and had, at a minimum, abscesses and thrush in his front feet. However, he was sweet, unflappable, and although in pain, was willing and kind to all who handled him.

Since then, he has been fondly and well cared for by the great staff at Chastain Horse Park as well as a number of volunteers and instructors whose hearts have gone out to him. Maureen, Barn Manager, reports that Cocoa Puffs are working wonders for his weight gain...we aren't sure if she is pulling our leg on that one but he sure is looking good!

Dr. Megan (vet) has examined Grant and found serious issues in his front feet. Some curable, some controllable but all requiring long term farrier and veterinarian treatment. A decision is required about whether CHP can afford to keep Grant and provide the special care that he needs. He has the sweetest attitude, needed size (16+ hands high), and a laid back temperament that make a great Therapeutic and beginning rider horse.

PLEASE GIVE WHATEVER YOU CAN to help pay the $2000 to save Grant's front feet. It could also take an additional $3000 to maintain the care needed over the longer term.

Grant has given a lifetime of service to humans as a police horse, a family horse and now as a therapeutic horse. The least we can do is give him a safe, comfortable, and loving home for his remaining years.
