Help 100 Campaign 2016 - Michigan State University College of Law
EVENT DATE: Mar 09, 2016
Imagine living in a rural area, living in poverty, and you have a problem with your taxes. Some families live too far away to get income tax help. Others are entitled to valuable income tax credits, but must pay hundreds of dollars to tax return preparers to receive assistance.
We are a group of law students from Michigan State University College of Law and from February 1, 2016 through March 16, 2016 we will be training and volunteering to serve low-income taxpayers in rural Michigan. The Help 100 Families Campaign will help impoverished individuals and families around Michigan to file their 2015 taxes and assist those in rural communities who have tax problems with the IRS. Our campaign is supervised by two licensed tax attorneys, who will ensure that all tax issues and returns are handled correctly and efficiently.
Last year, ten volunteers each donated at least 40 hours to assist 120 rural taxpayers with their tax problems. This year we have a goal of helping 150 taxpayers!
