Purple Prom Fundraiser
Organized by: marjaan sirdar
EVENT DATE May 14, 2016
Menlo Park Academy is a contract alternative school inside East Side Neighborhood Services, a non-profit organization in NE Minneapolis. We serve students who, for a variety of reasons, do not find success in traditional school settings. 85% of our students are from low-income families and the majority are students of color (85%). Because we are a small alternative school, some of our students feel like they are not getting the "real" high school experience. These perceptions urge us, as a staff, to do whatever we can to make this year's prom spectacular.
In honor of our beloved late superstar, Prince, this year we are having a purple themed prom. This fun event takes place Saturday, May 14th, on a riverboat on the St. Croix. Dinner is included plus we will have an amazing DJ to keep the party exciting.
Traditionally, turnout for Menlo prom is low. But last year our prom was a huge success with high turnout. Thanks to you we raised $3000 and offered tickets for $5 instead of $30. This year we are hoping to do the same so that anyone who wants to go to prom is able to. If students cannot pay $5, we will waive the fee entirely. Any leftover funds will go to printing our yearbook. Between the riverboat fees for students and chaperones, transportation, DJ, and dessert, it will cost $47 per student. Even as little as a $10 contribution can help us reach our goal of $3000 and ensure all students can attend prom.
Thank you so much for your support. 2016 Purple Prom will be a night our students will never forget.
