My son, VJ, ended his life on September 2, 2008. He was 16 years old. The lives of his family and friends changed forever that day. His death started a grief journey that we all will travel for the rest of our lives. The impact of his life and death is different for everyone who knew VJ. Personally, his life taught me that every moment is precious and to never take anything for granted. My son was a young man of few words and his silence sets deep within my soul. HIs death has taught me not to be silent about suicide and not to be silent about my own depression. I talk about VJ just as much as I talk about my surviving children.
VJ provides me with the courage and strength to stop the silence. The Walk For Hope is my family and friends chance to stop the silence and share our stories with each other; to learn and grow; to support our cause for suicide awareness and depression.
