Hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) are the 4th leading cause of death in the United States and they are preventable. HAIs are infections that someone acquires while being treated for something unrelated in a healthcare facility.
Imagine a jetliner crashing every day for 1 year killing all 200 passengers on board. That is how many people die from HAIs. Approximately 90,000 people. 1.7 Million people will acquire an infection many of who lead altered lives as a result.
Research shows that surfaces are supporting the transmission of microbes that cause deadly infections. An additional reason and need for addressing this foundational issue of surfaces and solving this problem is the concern that microbes are mutating and are resistant to antibiotics and standard forms of treatments.
The Healthcare Surfaces Summit aka Healthcare Surfaces Institute is a 501c3 non-profit organization
