Unify Tar Sands Resistance: Help Us Bring Leaders and Activists Together
EVENT DATE: Jun 27, 2014
DEADLINE TO GIVE: Jun 15, 2014
FUNDRAISER SET UP DEADLINE: Jun 05, 2014
Every year, indigenous elders in Alberta, Canada lead a pilgrimage through tar sands ground zero -- shining a light on how this industry directly impacts their communities.
It's called the Healing Walk, and it's a critical part of the movement to resist tar sands.
All across the country, grassroots leaders are working to protect their communities from the risks of tar sands: air pollution, water contamination, and numerous health threats associated with living near extreme energy industrial sites.
For this year's walk on June 27, we want to bring together those leaders from all across the continent, from Houston to Vancouver. They’ll connect with people facing similar struggles and join a growing international network of frontline activists. We’ll equip them with the tools to amplify their stories in local and national media when they return home.
But we need your help.
Below is a list of leaders who hope to participate in the Healing Walk. Each one is doing critical work in the place they call home, many with limited resources.
HELP BUILD THE MOVEMENT: SEND ACTIVISTS AND ORGANIZERS TO THE TAR SANDS!
Your money will directly go toward financing their trips to this historic event
PLEASE NOTE: IF AN INDIVIDUAL EXCEEDS THEIR FUNDRAISING GOAL OF $1000, ANY ADDITIONAL FUNDS WILL BE USED TO SUPPORT A FELLOW LEADER/PARTICIPANT.
**Second note: Fundraising is unpredictable. Please know that if one of these amazing activists does not raise enough money to travel to Fort McMuray Canada, they will use your amazing donation to support the powerful work they are already doing in their local communities.
***Third note: We know the folks in Fort McMurray who are organizing the Healing Walk have real costs associated with it. So, we plan to donate a small percentage of the money raised here to help offset those costs too.
