BENEFITING: Huntington's Disease Society of America, Inc.
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
I am excited to be apart of the HDSA Team for this year's NYC Marathon! If you are not familiar with what Huntington's Disease (HD) is then think of someone who slowly loses the ability to do everyday things such as walk, talk, eat and think. I see it as a combination of ALS, Parkinson's, Dimentia, and MS.
There are no treatments that will halt the progression of HD, and there is no cure. Often called “the worst disease known to mankind,” HD is always fatal. Each child of an affected parent has a 50/50 chance of inheriting the disease.
HD has played a major role throughout my life since my mom had the disease for about 17 years. I have seen the disease slowly deteriorate my mom's physical and cognitively abilities. Additionally, I have seen it impact my friends in the HD community.
I am running this marathon for all those who are impacted by Huntington's Disease and in memory of my mom who lost her battle on March 18, 2015. Don't think you need to donate a lot since all the little donations add up. Even if you cannot donate, please share my fundraising page to others who may be able to support me.
