Kona came to us as an abandoned kid, chained to the house and left behind when his owner was evicted. A good samaritan cared for him once a day and reached out to us to take him in. He is approximately 6 or 7 years old and 60 lbs of pure doggy love!

Kona is Heartwom positive and we are working through that already. He was diagnosed today with the skin form of Hemangiosarcoma. It is a form of skin cancer. The tumors, even though on the surface of his skin, must be removed surgically and the prognosis is good when removed promptly. We are hopeful that it has not spread to his subcutaneous tissues. If it has not then he has a very good chance of a great life ahead.

Kona's teeth are severely worn away on some points, (we think it's due to the chain he was on his whole life before), and may be causing him some pain. His super pleasant loverboy demeanor and GOOD BOY attitude covers this completely as we are pretty sure he has had to endure much suffering before he came to the Hawaii SPCA, so whatever he may be feeling in his teeth or through the tumors doesn't bother him as it should or would a regular dog. We just love him to pieces.

The estimate we received for both tumor removals and tooth extractions comes to between $1100 and $1300 so our goal for Kona's treatments is set at $1200 to split the difference.
