BENEFITING: HAVEN

EVENT: NO MORE Challenge 2017

THE STORY:

On July 1st, 2015, after more than 35 years working side by side, A Safe Place and SASS (Sexual Assault Support Services) officially merged to become HAVEN. Our dedicated staff, volunteers, and Board members have combined their strengths and experience to increase their collective impact and to serve more individuals than ever before. We have never been more poised to eliminate domestic and sexual violence in our communities than we are today.

Our merged agency reflects our vision for a future where individuals can seek comprehensive services, experience limited barriers to support, and begin their journey forward with stronger, more stable footing.

2015 Client Services and Violence Prevention Education Stats for Southeastern NH

HAVEN provided confidential support services to 5,262 individuals. Support services include a 24-hour hotline 1-603-994-SAFE (7233), advocate accompaniments to area hospitals, police stations, Child Advocacy Centers and courts, and safe shelter and support groups.

The Safe Kids Strong Teens violence prevention education and awareness program was presented to 7985 children and adults in 33 schools. Safe Kids Strong Teens is an interactive k-12 program that uses an age-appropriate curriculum to protect children in the community from sexual abuse, sexual assault, sexual harassment, bullying and teen dating violence. Evaluations of the program have demonstrated significant changes in knowledge and attitudes related to victim blaming and healthy relationships.

Did YOU know?

While we are incredibly proud of the work we've done since the merger, we have much more work ahead, and there are many more people in need of our services than we can currently serve.

Last year, HAVEN answered over 3,000 hotline calls. Although it may seem like a large number, HAVEN’s catchment includes approximately 400,000 women, men and children in Southeastern NH.

In September of 2014, the shelter turned away 15 mothers and 12 kids due to capacity. When there is no room to provide safe shelter, the agency works  to help connect victims and survivors to other shelters in the state.

There are 40,000 school-aged children in Southeastern NH but due to funding only 10,000 kids are able to participate in the Safe Kids Strong Teens violence prevention education and awareness program. Since funding for prevention programming is limited, Safe Kids Strong Teens programs are almost entirely supported through individual and corporate donors.

We are HAVEN

Our mission is to prevent sexual assault, domestic violence and stalking, and to support and empower women, men, youth and families to heal from abuse and rebuild their lives.

As the largest crisis agency in the state of New Hampshire, we know that our vision for improved and expanded services for the community is essential. You can help us continue to provide critical programs and services needed to support victims and survivors of domestic and sexual violence by supporting us through the NO MORE Challenge.
