“You know you’re meant for more, so don’t be afraid to move. Your faith is all it takes and you can walk on the water too.” If you did not recognize this quote, it is lyrics from Walk on the Water by Britt Nicole, a song that has changed my life. This song is very close to my heart because of the show Voice of Truth, my first show at LampLight Theatre, that began my journey there. I will be swimming for LampLight Theatre. This is a place like no other where anyone and everyone can come as they are before the Lord, unashamed.
My first show began a little over a year ago in August 2015. Some friends had told me about an audition for a teen play at LampLight Theatre, and I was doing no other activities at the time, so it was like God had made an open door for me. I was excited and nervous to audition, and the agony of waiting to see what part I got made the half a day wait seem like forever. I was cast as Sadie, the youngest child of the main family. This little girl was scared and struggled with the idea of faith, ever since her father left her family. She was in fear of the future, but always looked at the bright side of things, and all Sadie clinged to were the stories of the Bible, especially, the story of Peter. Sadie loved how Peter could trust Jesus and walk on the water, thus the illustration of Sadie walking on a fence as she furthers her relationship with Jesus. As I dance on the fence as Sadie, I feel the spirit, and I am filled with joy. Faith is hard because you have to blindly trust God, and LampLight Theatre has helped me have more of a reassurance of my faith.
Most people who haven’t experienced the true mission of LampLight think that LampLight is just a normal Theatre with an invitation at the end of each show, but it is so much more. Every song sung, number danced, and scene acted is for an audience of One, Jesus Christ. Although it can be easy to get swept away with the excitement of performances, at LampLight, we are always reminded the reasons for doing shows. We want people to see Jesus, not star actors or talented singers, through the shows. Ministry doesn’t just take place on the stage, but in the hearts of every cast member and audience member. LampLight ministers to its cast just as much as it does to the audience. Backstage, we all become unified in Christ and get closer to Him. Lives of people have been dramatically impacted by this Theatre, and it is so easy to come before God just as you are. Prayer also covers the cast and crew, the building, and every single person who walks into the open doors. I can guarantee, that every person who walks into the Theatre has been prayed for.
LampLight’s ministries also reach out to underprivileged children in the area by sending them to FREE camps, and giving children Christmas. They also host a service called Koinonia, which invites people who aren’t comfortable going to church to come to the Theatre on Sunday nights for worship. LampLight has baptized so many people, and LampLight tries to refer people to churches as well. I also forgot to mention that tickets are free. LampLight doesn’t charge people for the gospel, so the paid staff may go weeks, months even, without a paycheck so some kids can go on a beach retreat to hear the Gospel. LampLight is a place of genuine brotherly love. I have felt the Spirit so strong in this place. LampLight isn’t Church, and Church is not bad, it is completely wonderful, but LampLight brings the Gospel in a new way and I have had countless experiences with God’s glory and grace in that special place.
I do pray that you would know that you know that you are meant for more, and you do all that God has called you to do. I would love any donation you can give, whether it is dedicating to pray for this place, coming to give moral support, giving financially, or a combination of these. I am swimming for LampLight because I know that the Lord is doing something special there. Thank you for your donations. God loves you, no matter what!!!! And remember, “Your Faith is all it takes for you to walk on the water too.” (Or in this case swim) :)
