Natural disasters strike all parts of the United States, and individuals and families are left to pick up the pieces and return to day-to-day life. This fundraising campaign's specific focus is to acquire the funds necessary to carry out a natural disaster outreach project in one of the nation's most needed areas. Hurricanes, tornadoes, volcanic eruptions, mudslides, freezes, and droughts are just some of the dabilitating disasters that affect our lives.

Unfortunately, natural disasters don’t limit their impact to debt-free homeowners with the ability to cover damage costs at any given moment. We recognize that most residents do not have a financial plan in place to repair their home post-disaster while scraping for the funds to cover mortgage or rent payments. Greenfield Institute understands that disaster survivors typically do not request, nor are they aware of, services from the housing counseling community. Disaster survivors have protections most homeowners and renters aren't even aware of until it is too late. Greenfield Institute strives to help people and communities overcome the emotional and mentally draining process of dealing with housing and financial needs during times of crisis. To maximize our impact, we collaborate with state and local organizations on the ground in affected communities, building relationships, and establishing trust.

We have identified significant shortfalls in the continuity of services once FEMA and SBA leave the region. This includes essential information like how to contact creditors post-disaster, recovery of personal data from damaged computers, finding transitional and permanent housing for displaced individuals and families, and compiling accessible lists of homeless and rental property providers. We are ready and equipped to go where our services are needed most.
