BENEFITING: DYSTONIA MEDICAL RESEARCH FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Apr 26, 2015
This last May, I was diagnosed with focal dystonia. For those of you who haven't heard of it, it's a neurological movement disorder that, for me, affects my left ring finger, making it very hard to play viola and has prevented me from playing with the Toledo Symphony since February 2014. The good news is that it's just a finger, it's not life-threatening in any way, and I have it much easier than people dealing with other kinds of dystonia. The bad news is that there's no cure for it, YET. With all the research taking place, I really feel like there will be a cure in the future. While I continue to try alternative treatments, I figure why not run a 1/2 marathon to help raise money for those smarties who are finding a cure.
I am running the Toledo Half Marathon on April 26, 2015 to raise money for the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation. Any donation will be greatly appreciated!
Thank you so much for your support!
In January, I saw a doctor in Canada who treats musicians with dystonia. He has given me exercises that are helping me to slowly make progress. It is a very slow process, but I am hopeful about continuing to improve! :) I will still be running this race and would love to reach my fundraising goal to help dystonia research!! Thank you for all of your support!!
