As some of you may know, I have been spending my Saturday mornings volunteering in a classroom for Go Project for the last two years. GO Project is a non-profit that leverages the resources of the community to help struggling NYC public school students uncover their potential (www.goprojectnyc.org). GO provides students who are performing below grade level with educational and family support services to help them succeed at school, at home and in life. I am asking that you help me to support GO project by clicking on the Donate button to the right.
- I have been involved with GO Project for over 2 years and have personally seen the impact.
- GO has a cost efficient model with low overhead so more of your donation goes to the students.
- Only $1,750 sponsors one student for the GO summer program, therefore a little goes a long way.
This year I am in a classroom with ten third graders who love recess but can get really frustrated when it comes to schoolwork. With four tutors and one teacher in the classroom, each student gets personalized attention that allows them to learn and be engaged. Two weeks ago, I helped Amy, a very sweet 9 year old, to write an essay on the Statue of Liberty and the freedom it represents to Americans. She also drew a picture sassing up Ms. Liberty with some high heels and jewelry!
I know that we all get asked to support many charities. I have not only seen that GO is effective from my time in the classroom, but it’s also a cost-efficient model. All program space is donated which keeps overhead costs low, and means that your donation goes directly to the students and families who need it most.
GO needs our support now. GO has identified over 3,000 students who could benefit from programs and services, and currently has a wait list of over 200 students. Please think back to that one tutor or teacher that taught you something that got you to the place you are today, GO project provides that type of inspiration to over 500 students. Please join me in supporting the GO Project, an organization that is well deserving of your support. My goal to raise $1,750 by the end of December to sponsor one student on the wait list for the summer program.
More Reasons to Donate to GO Project:
A student who does not read on grade level by the third grade is four times less likely to graduate from high school on time. Add poverty to the mix and the student is 13 times less likely to graduate. Today, only one half of New York City students in third grade meet state learning standards and 78% live in poverty. Without the right intervention at the right time, today's struggling students have little chance of making their high school graduation day.
The GO Project is working to change these statistics through an award-winning early intervention education program, which serves students in K-8th grades and their families. Close to 90% of GO students live in poverty, and over half of students have a special education classification. GO students attend some of the most under-resourced public schools in NYC, and as a result are not receiving the individualized support they need to succeed.
At GO, certified teachers and dedicated volunteers work with students one-on-one and in small groups. Each student at GO receives an individualized plan designed to bring them up to grade level, get them into a great middle school and high school, and put them on the path to college. GO also works closely with families, to ensure that parents and caregivers are engaged and active in partnering for their child’s academic success.
The GO Project model is built on the strength of long term partnerships with independent schools who fully donate resources and classroom space to GO, allowing for a lean and efficient cost model that keeps overhead costs low.
By donating to the GO Project today, your support goes directly to the students and families who need it most.
Thank you for your time and generosity.
