GLSEN, the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network envisions a world where all students can attend school in a safe and affirming environment, free of harassment and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity/expression.
GLSEN Pittsburgh leads the way in the movement to create safe school environments for LGBT students by providing effective programming aimed at changing the school environment with the help of educators, administrators, students, and parents. We work at various levels throughout the school community in order to:
create comprehensive and inclusive anti-bullying/non-discrimination policies
enable educators to teach about LGBT issues, combat bullying in their classrooms and support LGBT students
support Gay-Straight Alliances both in schools and in the community
provide LGBT-inclusive curriculum, Day of Action programming, and community resources for schools
We serve K-12 schools throughout the 11 counties of southwest Pennsylvania creating a network of supported, educated, and knowledgeable individuals within the school community.
