Project Kenya is a Service and Learning Trip for high school students in Kibera, one of the largest urban slum in Africa. For two weeks, the teenagers experience the daily life of the children of Kibera while they volunteer at the Red Rose School and at Uweza Foundation located in the heart of the slum. They discover the harshness of the living conditions and the resilience of the population. Besides teaching and helping at the school, they have to lead a project which helps children to develop a talent.

In Kibera, there is no clean water, no plumbing or electricity and scarce meals at home. Sickness and disease are rampant and life expectancy is under 30 years old. Most kids have either one or no parents.
As most families live on less than $1 a day, paying any amount for adequate schooling is very difficult. A majority of kids finish their schooling at 8th grade (or before) because of high school fees. Knowing that high school may not be an option, many students don't put enough effort into their education as they will have to stop to help support their families.

Uweza Foundation and the Red Rose School located right in the heart of the slum, through their programs are trying to break the cycle of poverty. They try to find sponsors who can finance the education of the most needy children and they are also helping each kid to develop a talent in order to find his own path to get out of the slum (soccer, dance, art, business...).

The money raised by the high school students before leaving for Kenya through different fundraising events, goes towards sponsoring the school education for kids who would otherwise have to drop out of school as well as different projects such as renovating the school buildings, creating a photography class, organizing a business pitch competition and promoting local artists as part as the Kibera Art Fest.
