BENEFITING: GIRLS ON THE RUN NYC
ORGANIZER: GIRLS ON THE RUN NYC
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
I chose to run as a Girls on the Run Solemate for multiple reasons...
1) As an Alumna of Gamma Phi Beta, I believe strongly in the mission of Girls on the Run and believe that it truly does help with Gamma Phi's philanthropy- Building Strong Girls
2) I had a big struggle with self-confidence and body image that resulted in my battle with an eating disorder in high school. Later in my recovery, I was able to start running and through running I've grown so much and gained so much strength both physically and mentally. Running taught me to respect and nourish my body and to be proud of what it can accomplish. I'm now in full recovery, and I truly believe running helped me, which is why I believe Girls on the Run is such a great organization.
3) The mission of GOTR is just so important! This organization focuses on promoting self-confidence, body positivity, embracing one's own uniqueness. What young girl couldn't benefit from that?
Any and all support you can give will be GREATLY appreciated! Thank you so much! <3>

GIRLS ON THE RUN NYC
Meeting twice a week in small teams of 8-20 girls, we teach life skills through fun, engaging lessons and conversation-based running games. The 24-lesson curriculum is taught by certified Girls on the Run coaches and includes three parts: understanding ourselves, valuing relationships and teamwork, and understanding how we connect with and shape the world at large. Over the course of the program, girls will develop and improve competence, feel confidence in who they are, develop strength of character, respond to others and oneself with care and compassion, create positive connections with peers and adults, and make a meaningful a contribution to community and society.
