BENEFITING: National Blood Clot Alliance
EVENT DATE: Jun 17, 2017
Rocco, Rebecca, Gianni and Angelina Sorace
In April 2014 our son, Gianni, developed a deep vein thrombosis in his leg at the young age of five. When doctors told us it was a blood clot, we could not believe it. We were blind sided because we did not know much about blood clots and we thought it only happened to adults. Two months later Gianni suffered a pulmonary embolism. This time we knew the signs and symptoms of blood clots, so we acted quickly and had him transferred to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia from New York. There we found out the extent of what had happened. Besides the pulmonary embolism, Gianni suffered a deep vein thrombosis in each leg, a clot in his inferior vena cava, a clot in the chamber of his heart and a clot in his subclavain vein. The doctors called it Thrombotic Storm. Gianni survived after spending the entire summer in the ICU battling the blood clots. We are so blessed to still have him with us. Fast forward 3 years, Gianni is now eight years old and is thriving in school and excelling in the activities he loves like fencing, baseball, swimming and track. He loves playing with his friends and traveling to cool places to experience nature. His favorite subjects are science and math. On Saturday, June 17th 2017 at 9am, Gianni's Let The Blood Flow Team will be participating in the Walk to Stop the Clot NYC to raise awareness about this very serious and often times fatal condition. Join us for the walk or help us raise money. All donations will go directly to the National Blood Clot Alliance. Thank you for your support from our family to yours!
