" HELP GET OLD PEOPLE SHELTER AND OFF THE STREET"
Organized by: A.T. LaPeau
Where is your mother ? Have you kissed your father lately ? Did your sister remember your birthday ? How wonderful of a brother do you have ..Was that cake granmother made on christmas better than the one she made for thanksgiving? Was the whole family there when your uncles wife of fourty years pass away..And are you still losing to your grandfather who at his age can still beat you tossing horse-shoes,,,,,Where is everyone sleeping tonight in your family ? Well that may be a loaded question.Lets be more specific...Where are the older relatives in your family sleeping...Do you care to answer or are you ashame to answer?......I ask that question simply because I'm just a regular guy working a 9 to 5 job who catches the bus.....But lately something has been pulling at my heart string..And I really don't know how it occured or why but I been noticing a lot of old peole sleeping on the street ,Men and women.. And it looks terible.. Some of them attired in soiled clothing..men and women..And when I see them I had to say to my self...What country is this ? The United States Of WHAT? One morning at 4 a.m. it was raing and I was late as usual dashing to catch the bus beneath my umbrella..Well during my dash I happen along the way to see a lot of old people..Some were on the steps of the church,Some were standing at store entrances that were closed ...Some where in tents and makeshift encampment .And some where just standing in the rain next to a shoping charts which had all that they owened ....I finally get to the bus stop and just as the rain picked up the bus arrived.I .Lowered my umbrella and got on it and got out of the rain....But as the bus pulled away..I looked out the window and saw those old people still in it ..And what broke my heart even more was one of them an old man who looked kike Louie Armstrong saw me peeking out the window and actually waved to me...........I lowered lowered my face in my hands and wept.........Where were those old peoples family ?.......Now I'm nieve I know there are alot of them who have medical issues ..That's a given..But even they deserve more than just sleeping on the street and talking to themselves...Where's their family..Every family has somebody who's abit touched but even at that how can they sleep at night ..So what is it ? If the old family member is out of site out..They'er out of mind ? It's become an epidemic .And a state of emergency needs to be declared .Because homlesness has dramactically flown off of the charts in the city and county of Los Angeles when it comes to old people sleeping on the streets ..Three reporters in the L.A. Times ..A Peter Jamison, David Zahniser and Matt Hamilton agreed with me in an artcle that they recently did getting Los Angeles elected leaders to agree that they have failed in stemming the surge in Homelessness.....But how do they stem the surg of all of these old people sleeping on our streets ..It just don't look right looking at and ols man and old woman sleeping on cold concrete..And many of them get more mercy from those drivers who drive the city buses day and night ..And god bless those bus drivers because they have more compassion than those people own fanily .I'm sure in other countries old family members are treated much diffrent than they are here ..... Because through it all old people sleeping on the street still boils down to being a family issue ..So what does family mean to you ? Hold that thought .Let me tell you what family means to me Family means that no matter what you're in it together, and till the end. It means that no matter how many times you may argue with your parents, sisters, or brothers, deep down you still have that unconditional love for them and if any one tries to step on any of them, you'll be the first to stand up and defend them. It means that you never let them stand alone, they come first. It means that you are getting unconditional love and that there's someone out there who knows when you hurt, and fell when you haven't said a single word. That my friend is family-knowing that there's no place like home, and even if the world has turn its back on you, home is the place you can go and find someone who will hold your hands through it all... A lot of the peopke on the street families don't know where they are or what they are doing. So it's like I said.. Well that may be a loaded question.Lets be more specific...Where are the older relatives in your family sleeping.. donations to raise money to
"HELP GET OLD PEOPLE OFF THE STREET! " A Pillow,Blanket and a Sheet and a few bucks to get something to eat..Until some kind of formal housing can be found for them ..
So in those quoted words " Nothing Will Work Unless You Do " by the phenomenal woman maya angelou..Nothing will change unless we come together with at least some kind of effort to let them know that we're thinking of them insted of just looking the other way ........
Your donations are much appreciated..
