Foster Care In The US Inc is a 501(c)3 charitable organization located at 8114 Burch Park Drive, Evansville, IN 47725. We received our non-profit designation from the IRS on June 14, 2019, and began administering services to our first youth on December 2, 2019. The organization was founded by foster care alum Jessica Angelique. Jessica spent her entire childhood, from birth to age fifteen, in and out of fifteen different foster homes, group homes and two orphanages in the Tri-State.
Jessica quickly realized, after transitioning out of foster care in Evansville, that there was no dedicated housing, programs, financial assistance, or resources for youth here to help them achieve a successful outcome post-foster care. Jessica lived on the couches of friends and in the shelter of underpasses, and sought help and assistance for food and clothing from local churches. As she did so, she began to understand what youth faced and started spending her time researching and building an organization to assist youth like herself, all the while hoping and praying that someone would help her. She learned that existing organizations, like the United Methodist Youth Home, Hillcrest Washington Youth Home and the Villages Foster Care, serve youth still in the system and who had funds attached to them. Jessica was homeless with no funds attached to her. Because she was an older youth, those programs would not take her in (programs only assist youth aged 13-16, and no youth could be pregnant or parenting at the time). She found herself struggling to survive, now with a baby in tow, and to find an organization where homeless youth, male and female, could just walk in off the streets and get housing, assistance, parenting education, transportation to and from appointments, assistance with a secondary education, and other essential services. It made her more determined than ever to create a place where ALL homeless youth could receive the help and assistance they need to integrate successfully into society.
Foster Care In The US Inc. was created as a direct result of Jessica’s personal experiences and the needs of homeless youth in the Tri-State who are too old for help from other organizations. It is the organization’s mission to improve the outcomes of foster and homeless youth in Evansville and the surrounding area.
COVID-19 has been especially hard on homeless youth in our area. It's hard to quarantine when you have no where to go. It's hard to stay healthy when you have nothing to eat and it's hard to remain positive about things when you have no one to talk to or lean on. We are there for youth through it all.
We assist ALL youth whether they are homeless, foster care, LGBTQ, male, female or pregnant/parenting. If you know of a homeless youth or young adult struggling in Vanderburgh, Posey, Warrick or Spencer county, please have them call 812-319-7507 to schedule a time to talk with a member of our staff about services.
