Loring Heights Park

Loring Heights, built in the 1940’s, is a cozy in-town Atlanta neighborhood of about 330 homes, nestled between Peachtree Street and Northside Drive, along the border between Midtown and Buckhead.  Throughout the history of the neighborhood the Loring Heights Park and duck pond have been the central focal point of the community.  It has been the gathering place for holiday celebrations, parties, work days, and simple time to relax.

As the neighborhood has evolved to an eclectic community including empty nesters, young couples and families with children (100+ kids and counting), a new interest and a willingness by the neighborhood has generated an initiative to restore the park. The consensus is that the park should remain as a gathering place for the neighborhood and also offer a serene escape from the city. In addition to stabilizing the pond which has deteriorated in part due to the most recent drought in 2007, a play area for the children is needed so that the park can serve all of Loring Heights.  Usability and sustainability are two of the main driving forces of the park design.

Our neighbors have formed the Friends of Loring Heights Park (FLHP), a non-profit organization where all donations are tax-deductible.  In early 2011 the fundraising began, and Loring Heights residents have already donated $25,000 and many hours of their time. We have received additional grants from Park Pride, the city of Atlanta, Kaboom, Defoors, and our city council person Yolanda Adrean's office.  We have crafted a budget to accomplish all of our goals, and we hope to raise an additional $25,000 from friends, family, and other caring souls. If you are willing to support this worthy cause, you will allow our neighbors to continue to take pleasure in this natural oasis in the city, and our children to spend countless hours enjoying a new playground. Would you be willing to help Loring Heights Park?
