BENEFITING: Friedreichs Ataxia Research Alliance Fara
ORGANIZER: Friedreichs Ataxia Research Alliance Fara
Just over a year ago, I woke up in the Hospital for Special Surgery after undergoing arthroscopic hip surgery to repair a torn labrum, bone spurs, and impingement in my right hip. The first thing I thought when I came to (after where the hell am I and why am I drooling on myself?) was: I'm going to run the New York City Marathon. Being the somewhat ambitious athlete that I am, I wanted to run the marathon that coming November, but sadly, my doctors and physical therapist quickly vetoed that plan. No matter, I had it firmly set in my mind that I would run the race, and that goal helped propel me through four rigorous months of physical therapy, my first (and second) half marathon, and ultimately, to where I am today.
I am running the New York City Marathon to prove that where there's a will, there's a way.
Please help me in achieving (and exceeding!) my donation goal for this incredibly important cause. Large or small, anything and everything is appreciated!!
Team FARA is made up of people who participate in endurance events on behalf of the Friedreich's Ataxia Research Alliance (FARA).
FARA is a non-profit organization dedicated to curing Friedreich's ataxia or FA through research. FA is a, life-shortening, degenerative neuro-muscular disorder that affects 10,000 to 20,000 worldwide.
There is currently no treatment or cure for FA, but FARA is working to change that. Thanks to fundraisers like this, FARA funds basic research, drug development, clinical trials, and scientific conferences to provide hope for a cure. For more information please visit their website curefa.org
