N49238 was manufactured in November 1942 and served as a training platform for fledgling pilots preparing for war. During WWII, the Corsicana airfield was established in order to train these pilots. The aircraft used was the PT-19 just like we have. Therefore the aircraft has a significant relationship with the city of Corsicana, TX.
Although ladies are reticent to divulge their age, The Pride of Corsicana is happy to share that she recently celebrated her 75th birthday on Veteran’s Day this year. I think you will notice that she has aged beautifully and according to her, gets around just fine thank you very much. We don’t want to speak badly of the lady, but it is time for a little TLC. Her heart (engine) purrs along nicely, despite the fact that we have never had a major overhaul since she has been with the squadron. She performs well in all that we ask of her but, like many of her contemporaries she has developed some bladder issues (oil usage) and we limit how far from home we travel before stopping. Sadly, it is only a matter of time before open heart surgery to repair the issue. Until then, we limit the distance traveled so that we don’t run out of oil (we consume nearly one gallon of oil each hour). This significantly limits which air shows that we can attend to show her off.
Coyote Squadron is proud to take our aircraft to air shows in our local area. The ability to show the younger generation the aircraft that their forefathers flew is a privilege that we take seriously. Educating the younger generation about the men and women who served their nation in time of peace and war is an important duty. Being able to show them the actual aircraft that they used and which are still in a flying capacity is what being in the Commemorative Air Force is all about. We participate in approximately 10 air shows annually, provide flyovers for veteran’s funerals, civic events and military related memorial celebrations. We have recently completed our 19th annual Corsicana Airsho which brings in many different types of CAF and civilian owned aircraft for the public to get up close and personal with. This air show affords us the opportunity to showcase these aircraft for all to see and enjoy.
