FACE Low-Cost Animal Clinic is a non-profit organization that opened in 1999 to provide low-cost, easily accessible spay and neuter services to people in Central Indiana. At the end of the year 2000, just after FACE opened, 22,000 cats and dogs were killed in Indianapolis shelters. But, because of our work, and thanks to the efforts of rescue groups that continue to pull animals from kill shelters, the number of animals euthanized in Indianapolis was just over 5,000 at the end of 2013. We have performed more than 218,000 spay and neuter surgeries and we know that high volume spay/neuter is making a difference. With our ultimate goal of keeping animals out of shelters, we merged with IndyFeral in 2011 to expand Trap, Neuter and Release efforts in Indianapolis and offer support to surrounding communities. Cats are the main source of shelter overpopulation, so our Community Cat Diversion Program was created in early 2014. Through it we pull every stray and feral cat from Indy's city-run shelter, spay or neuter each cat, vaccinate, provide medical treatment and adopt them out, place them in colonies or in barn or warehouse environments where they can safely live out their lives. In late 2014 we expanded our efforts again and now offer a low-price medical clinic where pet owners who may not be able to afford large vet bills can have their pets treated for illness or injury. Now, in our city, no animal should ever need to be surrendered because their owner can't afford help.
