Our mission is to make formal education an attainable goal to the impoverished children of Haiti by sponsoring students’ education and establishing a national scholarship foundation.
We, the administrators at Ideal Centre Education Chretienne (ICEC), are starting Education Within Reach so that we can ensure that Haitian children, whose families cannot afford tuition, can have access to education. We will also offer opportunities to children, who never had access to our educational program, to participate for the first time. We are seeking private donations to support our goal to rebuild ICEC. The cost for the school construction is $40,000. Any donation, great and small, will be much appreciated. The ultimate goals of Education Within Reach are to subsidize the students’ education completely through scholarships and create a national scholarship foundation that would allow children from other parts of Haiti to enjoy the benefit of attending the school in their area.
Ideal Centre Education Chretienne (ICEC) was founded as a private school in 1986 by a group of two teachers, one volunteer and one Director who wanted to institute an elementary school that would cater to the educational needs of children of Delmas 32. ICEC provides a full curriculum, civics and socialization courses, English as a Second Language, and computer classes to the school-aged children of Delmas 32, grades K-6. Over the past 25 years, the school has grown exponentially and its curriculum activities developed their social, academic, and leadership skills. We are the first and largest elementary school in the area of Delmas 32, serving more than 500 children each day. Our goal is maximize their quality of life by giving them something that every child should have: a formal education.
Ideal Centre Education Chretienne was completely by the earthquake on January 12, 2010, along with all of its documents and equipment. We are running our school under tents and these conditions are very difficult. Moreover, we are unable to provide equipment and supplies. If we want to continue to serve Delmas 32, it is imperative that we rebuild ICEC. The reconstruction of the school project will provide access to education and social services to the children, which it previously served.
We are not an official non-profit organization. We are currently in the process of obtaining incorporation. The process is lengthy and complicated, and we cannot afford to wait. Our students are in dire straits and they are depending on us to deliver.
