BENEFITING: The Chadtough Foundation
EVENT DATE: Apr 22, 2018
I'm Erin Griffioen and I'm running the Gazelle Girl Half Marathon to raise money for DIPG and Team Tommy Army Strong! I am a wife, mother, runner, and teacher. Something in my heart was forever changed when our Jenison community lost Tommy Ruddy, a sweet little boy who bravely fought against DIPG. Tommy was only 5 years old and attended school with my daughter. He was diagnosed with this horrible disease, fought bravely, and earned his angel wings all within 3 months. No family should have to go through that!!!
Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) is a form of pediatric brain cancer that currently has a 0% survival rate. The tumor is located on the brain stem and is inoperable. It most often affects children under the age of 10. The standard treatment is radiation to prolong life for a matter of months, but most children die within a year of diagnosis. There approximately 300-400 new cases each year in our country, with many of them being right here in West Michigan.
Pediatric cancer is severely unfunded and receives less than 4% of government allocated money for cancer research. This equates to approximately $500 per child. Without private funding and donations there will be no cure! Please help me raise money for research to provide better treatment options for children with DIPG!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR INTEREST IN MY CAUSE!!! Any donation amount will help these kids and their families!
