BENEFITING: Imerman Angels
EVENT DATE: Oct 08, 2017
Full disclosure. I don't enjoy running. At all. I have been training for the past 18 weeks and it's been nothing short of insane, grueling, rewarding, inspiring and life changing. This marathon (my second and last) is important to me because I am doing it to support Imerman Angels. I did it last year and SWORE I was one and done... Never again. But here I am, a year later, training for another 26.2. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME? Simple. I am running for Imerman Angles. I am running for those who can't. I am running for those dealing with a new cancer diagnosis alone. I am running because I can. Imeman has a simple mission. To pair cancer fighters with cancer survivors, making sure that no one faces cancer alone. In the final weeks leading up to the marathon, I am reaching out to my family and friends for support. No donation is too small or too big and EVERY donation matters. Imerman Angles is a small charity and that is another reason I am running for them. I know the support we give them, will really make an impact.
My goal has been simple. To get to the start line. YUP. Not the finish line, the start line. From there, whatever happens is going to be ok by me. My goal is not to win it... well, obviously. My goal is to have fun, take in all the energy of the great city that is Chicago and all the people who will be there cheering on the runners. As long as I can finish before the sweeper-peeper tries to clear me off the course, I'll be good.
As I think about the challenges that I face while attempting to run the 26.2, it strikes me that really, it's not a challenge at all compared to what many have to go through while fighting cancer.
I get my strength from support from my friends and family. I write the names of all my donors on my running jersey so that they'll be with me the entire way. I also add the names in of any cancer fighters and survivors to make sure that they know they are never alone. It's like getting one big hug the whole race.
THANK YOU for your support, love and encouragement. Means the WORLD.
