Equality Lab is a virtual reality-driven non-profit organization that is dedicated to leveraging immersive technology to uplift underserved communities and address some of the critical issues our society faces: such as ameliorating the relationship between the police and the community, caring for seniors in an ever-aging society.
THE SCIENCE BACKING THIS: FROM THE LAB TO THE REAL WORLD
Pioneering studies in cyber-psychology have demonstrated that virtual reality can help foster pro-social behavior, bridge empathy gaps, facilitate peacemaking and alleviate pain and isolation for elderly patients. Equality lab is passionate about bringing these groundbreaking scientific results from the lab to the real world.
We believe in using a technology that will not primarily benefit the Silicon Valley-based happy few but that can serve the greater good of the greater number. We are enthusiastic about empowering economically and socially disempowered communities at scale with programs that are both backed by science and powered by technology.
MAKING STAR TREK'S VISION OF INCLUSION A 21ST CENTURY REALITY
Our first funder and supporter is the Roddenberry foundation. Gene Roddenberry created the world of Star Trek to help us envision a hopeful future made of peaceful collaboration and exploration. Gene Roddenberry’s family started this foundation to further their father’s worldview and fund trailblazing projects that use today’s technology to help materialize Star Trek’s ideals: empathy, community, inclusion and peace.
