THE STORY:

GREAT MUSIC FOR A GREATER CAUSE

The Salem Jazz and Soul Festival is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that produces free concerts to raise money to support music-education initiatives for the youth of Massachusetts’ North Shore.

Support music-education causes and produce FREE Concerts on Massachusetts’ North Shore

We want to expand our REACH | Positively impact the lives of more kids | Give the gift of FREE QUALITY MUSIC to those who don’t have access to it | BUILD COMMUNITY through expanded MUSIC EDUCATION programming and produce FREE MUSIC EVENTS

WE CAN DO MORE! Now approaching our 10th season, we have the ability to scale our efforts in REACH and in the offering of expanded music-education PROGRAMMING.

HELP US CREATE THE SOUNDS OF OUR FUTURE!

  • To date, the Salem Jazz and Soul Festival has distributed $55,000+ to music education initiatives directly impacting HUNDREDS of talented North Shore YOUTH.
  • Music initiatives include: grants, scholarships, instrument purchases, internships, interactive education, after school programming, festival education tent an FREE quality music for ALL.
  • We’ve produced more than 60 FREE concerts attended by TENS of THOUSANDS from the local community and beyond.
  • Since 2009, "May through August," we’ve put on FREE monthly concerts in partnership with the Berklee College of Music.  Our FREE SJSF/Berklee Summer Series features student bands from the Berklee College of Music and includes an intimate Q&A between artists and audience.

Studies show that children who have an active experience and meaningful engagement with sound through music are more likely to excel in school and pursue a college education. Music education programs help children attain critical life skills like discipline, creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and leadership. The arts are a crucial part of any child’s intellectual development, and they need our continual support.

DID YOU KNOW:

'NUFF SAID… RIGHT! Be it $1, $5, $10, $25, $50, $100… Donating to a cause such as ours positively impacts and shapes the leaders... THE SOUNDS... of tomorrow.

Here's more detail as to what it is we do/have done:

Since our inception, the Salem Jazz and Soul Festival has distributed more than $55,000 to music-education initiatives throughout the North Shore directly impacting HUNDREDS of our talented youth and future music lovers. As we approach our 10th Season we’re able to scale our efforts.

Other ways our effort has impacted local youth and our community at large:

  • Disbursed scholarships for students to attend regional music camps
  • Made grants to area group homes and after-school music programs
  • Donated money and new equipment to North Shore high school jazz bands
  • Created a monthly music series for grade-schoolers at Salem Public Library and homeless families at a North Shore hotel
  • Produced more than 60 free concerts
  • Ran an annual music-related art contest for children in elementary school
  • Funded an 8-week interactive workshop for children in the autism spectrum
  • Developed an intern program in which local high school students can learn audio production
  • Won Massachusetts Cultural Council’s “Gold Star Award” In 2013 Each year our reach continues to support music education programs in a variety of Greater Boston cities and towns.

Our beneficiaries include music programs at Salem High School, the Lynn Public Schools, Everett High School, the North Shore Recovery High School in Beverly and Northeast ARC. We’ve also recently expanded our educational mission to include our own music-education programming, as well as hosting student interns from North Shore Recovery High School and the Art Institute of Boston.

The Salem Jazz and Soul Festival is financed through personal donations, merchandise sales, grants and corporate sponsorships.  So PLEASE DONATE TODAY! $1, $5, $10, $25, $50… Every dollar helps to keep MUSIC EDUCATION ALIVE and FREE QUALITY MUSIC ACCESSIBLE on the North Shore of Massachusetts and beyond.
