Helping 540,000 people by distributing 45 million pounds of food a year, makes Capital Area Food Bank the largest organization in the Washington metro area working to solve hunger and its companion problems. But hunger isn’t the only issue tackled by CAFB, they also focus on diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and obesity.
Most of these illnesses arise due to lack of proper nutrition including fresh vegetables and fruits. CAFB knows how hard it Is to find affordable fresh produce, which is why they ensure that 30% of the food they distribute is fresh and offered in numerous free markets to give families access to these products. In addition to fresh produce, CAFB also provides other types of nutritious food such as low sugar canned fruits and low sodium canned vegetables and proteins in locations including the DMV, pop up markets in schools, community centers and smaller non-profit partners.
Every dollar donated provides 2.5 meals, with just one recommendation you can help provide 25 meals for our local homeless community and provide them with the nutrition they deserve!
