I am so honored and excited to have been chosen as a member of the Dream Big! 2016 Boston Marathon team!
My love of athletics developed at a very young age as I observed by brothers Paul and Michael participating in sports and realized I wanted to do the same.This passion has followed me into my adult life as a competitive triathlete and runner and in my professional life as a Registered Dietitian in Sports Medicine at Children's Hospital.
I owe a great deal of my confidence, drive, and committment to succeed to my years of participation in sport as I am sure many of you out there can also relate to!
I grew up very fortunate to have access to participate in a variety of activities and buying a new pair of cleats or a soccer ball was never an issue. However, for many young female athletes access is a huge barrier for them to participate in athletics. That bring me to the amazing charity Dream Big!.
Dream Big! works to provide girls from low-income and home less situations with the with the equipment, uniforms, athletic footwear, program fees, training expenses, sports opportunities and the supplies they need to participate in sports and physical activities that contribute to their health, education and overall well-being.
Dream Big! is working to breakdown the financial barrier that currently prevents girls from participating. Here are a few examples of the impact Dream Big! donations had this past year:
1. Donated basketball sneakers and uniforms helped to support two girls basketball programs & soccer team who use sports to help girls suffering with trauma and abuse
2. Donation of a volleyball net and equipment allowed a high school volleyball team to have their first home game in two decades;
3. Dream Big! Program Scholarships sent girls to basketball and volleyball camp and other girls took dance lessons throughout the year
How can you help?
No contribution is too small and every single one helps us reach our goal! Here are some suggestions to help Dream Big! continue to make an impact.
$35 will purchase a regulation soccer ball or basketball

$200 pays for a new bike and helmet
$500 pays for a week long summer sports camp
