BENEFITING: National Kidney Foundation of Arizona
EVENT DATE: Feb 22, 2019
I was born and raised in India and immigrated to the United States after completing medical school. After completing my residency training in Minneapolis, I decided to pursue a career caring for patients with kidney disease and in 2000 started my Nephrology Fellowship at University of California, San Francisco. Subsequently, after completing a Transplant Nephrology Fellowship at University of California, San Francisco, I joined the Mayo Clinic Arizona as a transplant nephrologist in 2005.
Over the past 18 years I have been involved in caring for patients with kidney disease and those who have received a kidney transplant. I have been an active member of the National Kidney Foundation in Arizona contributing to their academic growth. I was the organizing chair of their annual Southwest Kidney Conference over the last couple years. This year I decided to step out of my comfort zone and be a participant in 2019 - Dancing with the Stars Arizona providing me the opportunity to further give back to the community in assisting patients with kidney disease.
I have always believed that it is a blessing and opportunity to have a medical career caring for people. Over the years, as a transplant nephrologist, I have seen the joy that my patients experience after a successful kidney transplant and no longer need to undergo dialysis. I have shared in the joy a woman who successfully took her pregnancy to term after kidney transplant, who could not conceive while on dialysis. I have also shared the disappointments some of my patients go through when they face complications which can arise after their kidney transplant.
I am excited and honored to be given this opportunity to help my patients by raising funds to assist in their care while challenging myself in the process. Please join me by supporting this cause and making a difference in the lives of our patients.
