Breast milk is a wonderful cocktail of nutrients and abundance of protective factors which bring good health!

I am raising money for a bigger and more efficient pasteurizer machine which will allow us to process all donated milk fast before it expires and to deliver it to the babies who need it.
I am hoping that you will be able to support this noble cause and I thank you in advance!
The mothers who selflessly and generously donate their breast milk, our volunteers who commit their energy and time and our financial supporters all make it possible for us to help all tiny babies in their fight for survival.
This cause is dear to me. I am a neonatologist in one of the biggest and busiest level IV NICUs in New York State. I see first hand the devastating effects of NEC (necrotizing entericolitis) a disease affecting the digestive system of premature babies. The cause of NEC is complex but feeding with baby formula increases the risk. We have become very skilled in managing the disease using suffisticated and costly medical and surgically treatments but nevertheless 30% of the affected babies loose their lives to it and the survivors suffer many complications many of which have lifelong effects.
Wouldn't it make more sense to try to prevent this disease instead of reacting to it when it happens? And we already have a simple, no high tech, designed by nature intervention: breast milk!
Unfortunately not all moms are able to produce breast milk despite their maximal effort and support by the healthcare providers. That is why donor milk is so important! I have been using donor milk in my NICU for two years and am happy to share with you that NEC in my NICU has decreased by 45%!
But not all NICUs are using donor milk due to the limited supply and the concerns of high cost! We at The New York Milk Bank and my colleagues in my NICU have spearheaded a legislative coverage of donor milk so cost will longer be a limiting factor and every baby regardless of race or socioeconomic status will have access! And there is no shortage of breast milk thanks to all breastfeeding mothers who have donated tens of thousands of ounces of milk already and continue to do so each day.
Now is up to us to make sure the milk is safe by pasteurizing it expediently and to deliver it to all babies who need it. Just imagine the joy, love, happiness of moms, dads, siblings and extended family members of each saved baby! Just imagine all these birthdays, first days of school days and graduations and all milestones events which can happen only with your generous donation!
You can make a difference!
