Donna did what any typical 18 year old living in New York City would do- she moved to Port Charlotte, Florida!
Donna Barrett was born and raised in Queens, NY. Searching for the fountain of youth (more like following her meal ticket- her parents) she came to Port Charlotte, Florida. Landing a job with JCPenney, Donna was transferred to Saint Petersburg as a manager, then to their corporate office just outside of Dallas Texas.
As Donna continued to get older, she knew she needed to come back and find that fountain of youth and in 2005, she came back to town. Donna continued her search for the fountain of youth at her next job at…. The Cultural Center of Charlotte County where she worked with volunteers managed many events, theatre productions and the everyday fun at the Place where Friendship Built.
Not finding the fountain of youth there, Donna figured maybe making friends in the construction industry, they could help build on. Donna became the Executive Officer of the Charlotte DeSoto Building Industry Association and is currently helping with the CDBIA President’s motto of Building Unity in Comedy (I mean Building Unity in the Community).
What she learned through it all is youth comes from her own happiness. At the age of 87 years old, you can still find Donna on the sidelines of her daughter Caitlin’s cheer squad, and by the side of her PCHS graduate Matthew who will be entering the US NAVY soon. Once in a while, you may even find her by the side of her very supportive husband (Oh Mike, are you here???).
And as anyone who was in Leadership Charlotte knows, Donna cannot end any sentence or discussion without screaming “GO RED” with love to LC10!
