BENEFITING: DOCTORS WITHOUT BORDERS USA INC
EVENT DATE: Dec 31, 2015
I recently expressed my interest in helping Syrian refugees, to which people responded, "What about the homeless here in America." So I challenged my friends to donate to my Crowdrise campaign for the Charitable Assistance to Community's Homeless (CATCH), a homeless program in Idaho. But I've also created this campaign for Doctors without Borders to help the Syrian refugees, because in America, we all have enough to help everyone regardless of their country of origin.
Rest assured, I did my research before asking anyone to donate. Please see their rating on Charity Navigator (http://www.charitynavigator.org). At Doctors without Borders, 87.4% of their donations go directly to their programs. And their CEO had the lowest compensation of any charity that I researched.
Doctors Without Borders, USA (DWB-USA) was founded in 1990 in New York City to raise funds, create awareness, recruit field staff, and advocate with the United Nations and US government on humanitarian concerns. They provide aid in nearly 60 countries to people whose survival is threatened by violence, neglect, or catastrophe, primarily due to armed conflict, epidemics, malnutrition, exclusion from health care, or natural disasters. You can read about what they are doing in Syria at their website (http://www.doctorswithoutborders.org/country-region/syria).
