Dominion Modern is Canada’s Design Museum. Incorporated in 2003, Dominion Modern is a non-profit registered charity that actively conserves Canada’s modern design and architecture legacy. Since its foundation Dominion Modern has created Canada’s largest archive of Canadian modern design heritage.

PROGRAMMING HIGHLIGHTS: the Oral History Project, Publications, Exhibitions, Collection Acquisition and Cataloguing. Your donation will go to helping our programming and establish a permanent home.


CATALOGUING COLLECTIONS

Dominion Modern acquires and catalogues collections of individual architects and designers for future generations. We maintain the largest collection of Canadian modern design – from furniture and industrial design to photographs, drawings and ephemera.


Our permanent collection includes over 55,000 objects and artifacts. The collection is a cultural asset in need of conservation and preservation. And with your help, preserve it for future generations.


-industrial design and manufactured products (furniture, ceramics, and appliances)

-original architectural drawings and sketches

-oral history cache of over 300 interviews

-books, periodicals

-original photography, slides, negatives and large format transparencies

-ephemera: original packaging, graphic design, merchandising materials, posters, etc

-original documentation


PERMANENT HOME Currently Dominion Modern is looking for a permanent home to house our collections. A place to exhibit, promote and enlighten on Canadian design and architecture.


ORAL HISTORY PROJECT

A vital programme, the Oral History Project launched to record the biographical histories of Canadian architects, engineers and designers. The cache contains over 300 interviews. Your donation will help us to transcribe these interviews. This is a costly, time consuming, laborious task. And we need your donation to carry on this project.


PUBLISHING PROGRAMME

Dominion Modern publishes works on Canadian architects and designers. Our books are based on a simple formula: well researched, compact, glossy, beautifully designed, affordable books.


Publications include, Nienkamper (2019), Le Parc olympique (2016), Metro (2010), Peter Dickinson, 2009, Noxon, 2009. Endangered Species, 2007. Mean City, 2005.
