With this fundraiser we hope to provide pets in need with FREE microchipping and vaccinations. At our event(s), we will provide information on disaster preparedness. Alex and Lucy ("")("")

On October 29th, 2012 a hurricane collided with a frontal system causing the deadliest and most destructive storm of the 2012 season. At its peak, Hurricane Sandy, now dubbed Superstorm Sandy due to its sheer force, was a Category 3 hurricane. Whipping through 24 states, it became the 2nd costliest hurricane in US history and the largest Atlantic hurricane EVER. There were over 285 fatalities. Although there hasn’t been an official tally, based on numbers after Hurricane Katrina, there was a conservative estimate of 300,000 pets displaced by this storm.

On November 2nd, 2012 Jon Bon Jovi (Alex and Lucy’s favorite rock star) performed a Hurricane Sandy Benefit Concert. While watching the concert, Alex was spurred to action and quickly called Lucy. Within 5 days the Do It Duo for Pets was formed and ready to make their first delivery. Inspired by the destruction to the beaches they visit every summer and their love of pets, Alex and Lucy decided that no pet should be forgotten and that someone needed to help them! Teaming up with animal organizations like the NJSPCA, BCSPCA, Jersey Shore Animal Foundation as well as the Salvation Army and Catholic Charities, the girls were able to set up food pantries within disaster relief centers, hand out food directly to the animals and families who were displaced, and fill the shelves and sheds of animal shelters along the coast. Their motto became “Big or Small – We Help Them All”, after delivering not only dog and cat supplies, but items for birds, bunnies, hamsters, gerbils and even snakes!

Throughout their journey, Alex and Lucy have been named “Kid Heroes” by the global organization “Kids Are Heroes”. They have become President and Vice-President of the Junior member division of the Burlington County SPCA, allowing them to promote and encourage healthy pet relationships. They have become NJ Chapter Presidents of Kids Against Animal Cruelty giving them a venue to promote rescue and stop euthanasia and abuse. They were recognized at the Lakewood BlueClaws as part of their 70 Sandy Ovations, which acknowledged individuals and organizations who exemplified outstanding assistance during the recovery of Hurricane Sandy. They were honored by the Salvation Army with a Certificate of Appreciation as well as the honor to sign the American flag, which flew outside their Disaster Relief Center in Ortley Beach, NJ. Additionally, they have received the New Jersey State Governor’s Award for Students in Action. In the spring of 2014, they attended Humane Lobby Day with the Humane Society of the United States and were given the Junior Hero Award by the Animal Welfare Federation of New Jersey. Most recently they received the Do Gooder Award from the Burlington County Times, honoring them as the number one non-profit in Burlington County.

Two soccer players and friends since they were 5 years old, Alex and Lucy incorporated their business and have obtained 501c3 tax exempt status with the IRS in order to further help animals. They follow the teachings of St Francis of Assisi and believe, “You start by doing what is necessary, then what is possible and suddenly you are doing the impossible!” Their mission is to distribute food and supplies to domestic animals and to assist shelters that are housing displaced and surrendered pets during disaster recovery. By providing to pet food pantries, delivering food and supplies to shelters and families, domestic animals will be taken care of while their families recover and rebuild. Their mission is, also, to educate the public about adoption, rescue and the need for spaying, neutering and micro-chipping. Do It Duo for Pets, Inc. provides disaster relief, educates, advocates and promotes healthy relationships with pets.
