Words matter. Hate speech against racial, ethnic and religious minorities is rising at an alarming rate. We cannot sit by and watch words turn into violence.
And we need your help.
We’re putting together a major grassroots effort to counter hate speech by bringing data-driven approaches and cutting edge tools to activists and organizations across the country and around the world. Your support will help fund community-led efforts against hate speech and ensure they have the support they need to be effective.
Who are we? The Nexus Fund is based in the U.S. and was founded to support local efforts to prevent genocide and mass atrocities around the world. We’re a team of women organizers of all colors, backgrounds and faiths. We’ve been working in the area of Dangerous Speech, or hate speech that can catalyze violence, since 2012 by bringing together experts and activists to design strategies that utilize our growing knowledge from the fields of behavioral science, marketing, neuroscience and more. We are founding members of the international Dangerous Speech working group - comprised of academics, practitioners, activists, social scientists, and funders - and have worked on the ground in more than a dozen countries. We also give small grants for community-based projects to prevent violence. Our model is all about listening to what people need and providing it. It’s simple and effective.
Note from The Nexus Fund team: To be frank, we never thought we’d need to bring the same tools we use to prevent mass atrocities abroad back to the U.S. -- but as we’re watching violence unfold in our backyard, we feel our unique knowledge and experience will be valuable right now. We’re going to do everything we can to help. We hope you’ll join us.
